What Timmy Chat covers
On every plan. The limits are stated plainly, and they come straight from the plans.
Channels and direct messages
Public and private channels, direct messages and group messages. Choose to be notified for everything, only for mentions, or not at all, per channel.
Threads that stay tidy
Reply in a thread to keep a conversation together. Tick "also send to the channel" when everyone should see it. Activity, Threads, Saved and Drafts each have their own view.
Search that understands filters
Full-text search across everything you can read, narrowed with from:, in:, has:file, has:link, before: and after:. Jump anywhere with the quick switcher.
Live, without refreshing
New messages and typing indicators arrive as they happen. Email digests, daily or weekly, cover what you missed.
Files and link previews
Attach files up to 4 MB each and share links with a preview. Files are served only to people who can read the conversation they were posted in, never from a public address.
Announcements people must acknowledge
Post an announcement that each reader confirms. Moderators can see who has acknowledged it and who has not: proof that a policy change was seen.
Schedule, remind, set a status
Schedule a message for later, set a custom status, pause notifications, or type a slash command: /status, /dnd, /remind, /topic, /invite, /leave, /me and /shrug.
Report a message to HR
Anyone, guests included, can report a message to your HR team. The message is recorded as it read at the time, so it cannot be edited away afterwards.
An admin console
Every plan gets an admin console with the channel list, the member list and workspace settings: who can create channels, how long messages can be edited, and file limits.

Good to know
What it is, and what it is not.
Canvases are edited one person at a time
If someone else saves while you are editing, you see what they saved. You can take theirs, keep yours or copy yours out. Nothing is overwritten silently. This is not live, multi-cursor co-editing.
Huddles are audio
Huddles are audio calls only: no camera, no screen share, and no recording. They are not available in a channel that is shared with another organisation.
Clips are short
Voice clips run up to five minutes. Video and screen clips run about a minute, because of the upload size limit. Where transcripts are switched on, a recording is turned into text after you send it.
Shared channels need both sides to agree
Nothing is shared until an administrator at the other organisation accepts, and either side can end it immediately. Guests never cross. Live typing and instant updates do not cross between organisations. The other side sees new messages when they open or refresh the channel.
Core hides older history but does not delete it
Core shows the last 90 days. Older messages stay safely stored and come back if you upgrade. Retention policies, which do delete, are an Enterprise setting you choose.
Timmy Chat: your questions
How do I switch Timmy Chat on?
Timmy Chat is off for a new organisation. The organisation's top administrator switches it on under Admin, Settings, Timmy Chat, and the Chat link then shows for everyone in the organisation. Switching it off hides the link and keeps the messages.
Can I search messages?
